A Kraków-based initiative that coordinates practical work between neighbours, local tradespeople and residents who want their courtyards, stairwells and shared spaces looked after properly.
Lihoci was registered in 2018 by a small group of residents in the Zwierzyniecka area who were tired of watching shared courtyards fall into disrepair while everyone waited for someone else to act. The first jobs were small: fixing a gate latch, repainting a fence, clearing an overgrown plot behind an apartment block. Word spread between buildings, and within two years the initiative had a waiting list. Today the team behind it counts 20 people, covering two districts of Kraków, and has completed 2,669 jobs since that first gate latch was fixed.
The mission is straightforward: keep shared residential spaces functional and cared for, without residents having to chase permissions or find contractors on their own. Lihoci acts as the point of contact between the person who noticed a broken railing and the person who can fix it. The longer-term aim is that this kind of coordination becomes the normal way courtyard upkeep gets handled in Kraków's residential blocks, rather than something that only happens after repeated complaints.
Five services make up the current offer, from basic repairs to garden upkeep and small renovation work, chosen because they cover the requests that come up most often across the two districts served.
Work gets scheduled in the order it's requested, priced before it starts, and reported back to whoever placed the request. No job is marked finished without the resident who asked for it confirming it in person. Materials used are documented on each invoice, so there's a paper trail if a warranty question comes up later.
Eight years of operating in the same two districts means the team knows which buildings have old plumbing, which courtyards flood after heavy rain, and which fences need repainting every second spring rather than every third. That local memory shortens the time between a request coming in and a fair quote going out, and it's the main reason nearly a third of clients call back for further work.
